187 – A Map of the Apocalypse

eumapb1.jpg

Scientists predict the Earth will end 5 billion years from now, when the Sun becomes a red giant. Certain religious people are more alarmist, claiming the Apocalypse is just around the corner.

In some versions of Christian eschatology (i.e. the study of end times), the Apocalypse will spare a limited number of worthy believers, while destroying the rest of humanity. Some Christian thinkers have derived a very specific course of events that will lead up to the Apocalypse, mainly from Revelations, the last book of the Bible. The final battle between God and Satan is known as Armageddon, and is usually situated at the Megiddo Valley in Israel.

It should be noted that the interpretations of the end times mentioned in the Bible vary widely, some seeing the struggle described as a merely symbolic and allegorical one, others professing a very literal interpretation (although many variants of that ‘literal’ interpretation exist). This map, published on the website of evangelist Jack Van Impe and no doubt reflecting his beliefs, has some very specific predictions for events, apparently not too far ahead:

Israel – against whom Russia and her allies march during the Tribulation hour. Here “The Battle of Armageddon” takes place in the Valley of Jezreel on the Plain Esdraelon which is at the foot of Mount Megiddo.

Euphrates River – which will be dried up to prepare the way for the kings of the East (Revelations 16:12). Russia has constructed a dam at Tabqa, Syria, and two others in Turkey and Iraq, to stop the flow of water. Invading armies may either march across the Euphrates at given points or march up the dry riverbed after an amphibious landing from the Persian Gulf.

Suez Canal – providing access to/from the Mediterranean and Red Seas and ultimately the Indian Ocean. This is a vital link for naval support.

Yemen – Marxist-governed republic and Russia’s possible final stepping-stone to Israel. Currently, Russian and Cuban troops are stationed in Yemen, training for military action in the Middle East. A fleet of Russian naval vessels (including submarines) is stationed in the Indian Ocean/Arabian Sea.

Karakoram Highway – completed in 1982, this superhighway provided China with an overland route to Pakistan and the Middle East. Ironically, the road follows the ancient trans-Asian invasion route used by Alexander the Great, Gengis Khan and the Mogul emperors.

Dardanelles – the strait joining the Sea of Marmara with the Aegean Sea. A leading Jewish rabbi has stated: “When Russia prepares to cross the Dardanelles, Messiah will come.” (Reported in The Jerusalem Post).

EU (blue) – Member nation of the European Community or “European Union” – the ten-nation confederacy spoken of in Daniel 2:44.

EU (red) – Nation to join the “European Union”. Daniel 7:24 teaches that another leader will rise to power and cast three nations out of the ten-nation conferderacy – replacing them with his own and two others for the final ten-nations alliance. This leader is the world dictator and infamous Antichrist!

(Russian flag) – Nations prophesied to be allied with Russia in her march against Israel according to Ezekiel 38:2,5,6 and Daniel 11:44. Many others will also be involved (Ezekiel 36:6b).

(blue arrow) – Possible land, sea and air invasion routes used by Russia and her allies during the war leading to “The Battle of Armageddon”.

(red area) – Section of the map identifying the area incorporated by the old Roman Empire.

The nations who OPPPOSE Russia include “Sheba and Dedan” (non-aligned Arab nations), and “Tarshish and all the young lions thereof” (Great Britain, the United States, Canada, Australia, and their possessions – Ezekiel 38:13) PLUS the ten-nation confederacy of the Antichrist who himself sits in the temple in Jerusalem at this time (Daniel 12:11; Matthew 24:15 and 2 Thessalonians 2:4).

NOTE: Zechariah 14:2 teaches that at a point just prior to “The Battle of Armageddon”, ALL nations turn against Israel at Jerusalem. “Then shall the Lord go forth and fight against those nations…” (Zechariah 14:3). This is Armageddon!

This map can be found here, on Mr Van Impe’s website.

  1. As a cool etymological note, the Hebrew for Mount Meggido is Har Megido. Har Megidon=Armageddon, a greekification of Har Meggido.

  2. As a bible-minded Christian, let me assure the readership that Van Impe goes way too far with his extrapolations. He teaches other doctrines and practices that are Biblically questionable as well. This map sure is interesting though. I don’t think it will be like he says…

  5. Roman control up to pakistan? And including ireland? Seems he didn’t get his history right, probably got his future wrong too!

When I first saw this map here, I thought that the ‘jack van imp’ ministries brand was a tongue in cheek way for the map creator to say ‘this map brought to you be the devil’ (sometimes called the imp or old jack or some such), iow, armageddon, brought to by the old imp.

Fascinating that the evangelicals are still so obsessed with the soviets. MIght’ve made sense for russia to be ‘all that is evil’ in teh cold war days, but they’re pretty irrelevant today. I notice that the map author is making claims such as there being russo-cuban troops in yemen, which is interesting, because usually the religious radicals will make statements like that to try to back up their claims.

  6. Yuval, Gog is a PERSON, not a place. According to Ezekiel 38:2, he is “of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal”.

I agree with a lot of you that the idea that Communism is the ideology of the devil, while common in evangelical circles during the Cold War, seems quaintly dated now. Maybe Van Imp thinks Putin is a Communist in disguise, and will try to resurrect the old Soviet Union.

I think Van Imp may also be an Anglo-Israelite advocate, someone who thinks the exiled Israelis moved to modern England and thus the English and their former colonies (including the USA! – note that they are part of the “good guy” anti-Russian side) are now God’s chosen people. They also tend to be racist, and think all dark-skinned people have a section of Hell reserved for them.

PS. Strangemaps, please don’t call the last book of the Bible “Revelations”. The proper name is “Revelation”, singular, as the whole thing is supposed to be one lone, extended vision of the end of the world given by God to St. John the Divine.

  7. I was a big fan of Jack Van Impe for a long time, and as far as I know he was not an Anglo-Israelite. He and several others of his ilk were very excited in the 1980s over the expansion of the European Community and tried (and apparently still try) to place obscure ancient place names with modern, far-flung countries.

It’s pathetic, and unfortunate, since they miss the meaning of the author’s statement and the struggle of the ancient Jews with their Middle Eastern overlords by confusing Greece, Syria, Babylonia, and Assyria with the USA, EU, and Russia.

  14. When will everyone wake up to logic rather than blindly following these ideas?

We discount ancient civilisations and their beliefs, when Chirsitianity and Judaism seek to be creators of the same mythologies! But the ancients delve much deeper than Western philosophy. It wasn’t until we showed up that we made the decision to control nature rather than exist with it. And we see everyday what we have done to the world as a result!

Huge changes are afoot, no doubt in that, but these are worldly and spiritual changes. It’s time for humans to put the weapons down and start embracing all that we have been graced with.

Why hide behind an unproveable religion and the unnessecary death of so many innocent people that it creates?! And let’s not forget that it is us in the West who are the evil ones for we are invading their lands when the vast majority of the people over there have done nothing wrong.

Ah, yes… terrorists. Well the IRA aren’t muslim in belief, nor is ETA and a whole list of other groups that have created chaos and death over the years. But we don’t seek to destroy the cultures in which they exist.

We must all wake up, for we manifest our own reality. If we want these things to happen then they will. If we choose not to let them happen, then they will not. Unless of course you individually want this to happen, which is certainly not very Christian or more importantly human – the seeking of death and horror for people living in areas that we could care less about.

Stop letting the out of touch leaders of this world corrupt you and think for you. Pray for this earth and ALL the people that inhabit it.

It is not God’s will to destroy these people and ultimately ourselves. And if you believe that it is, then you should seriously question your God’s beliefs!

  18. Ellana the Bible does say that ‘like a thief in the night’ but it also says in Revelations 1:3 ‘Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written in it, for the time is at hand.’
Thus it is a blessing to seek to understand what is to come, I don’t think the Bible ever seeks to makes mankind ignorant…rather to be enlightened

  22. Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal -

We see the Dragon (Satan/Devil), at the Sixth PLAGUE, prior to the battle of Armageddon (Re.16:12-16), on the world scene with the beast (Re.13:1) and the false prophet (Re.13:11) (Re.16:13-14).

Satan (the Dragon/the Devil) is the prince of this world (Jn.12:31).

I believe that Satan (the Dragon/the Devil) manifests himself in the flesh as Gog (Eze.39:1).

Gog is at the battle of Armageddon (Eze.39:1-5, Eze.39:17-20, Re.19:17-21).

Satan gives the beast of Revelation 131 and the “another” beast of Revelation 13:11 their power (Re.13:2, Re.13:12).

Gog (Satan/the Devil) is the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal (Eze.39:1).

It would not surprise me if the beast/king of Revelation 13:1 (who is seen as “the beast” at Re.16:13) will have the name Meshech and that the beast/king of Revelation 13:11 (who is seen as “the false prophet” at Re.16:13) will have the name Tubal.

Gog is buried after the battle of Armageddon (Eze.39:11), but this evil spiritual entity, Satan (Gog), will be bound in the bottomless pit during the Millennium to be loosed out of his prison AFTER the thousand years is finished (Re.20:7).

After the Millennium, Satan will gather the nations from the four quarters of the earth to battle (Re.20:8). They will encompass the camp of the immortal saints and the beloved city, Jerusalem. Fire from heaven rains down upon them; they are destroyed (Re.20:9).

The Devil is cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast (Re.13:1) and the false prophet (Re.13:11) are (Re.20:10).

The earth and the heavens will flee away AFTER the battle of Gog and Magog (Re.20:11, Dan.2:35, 2 Peter 3:10-12).

I believe that the LAND of Magog (Eze.38:2) is this earth. Satan is the “god” (2 Cor.4:4 below) of this present evil world (Gal.1:4).

  31. The word “rapture” exists in which chapters of the New Testament? None, Zero, Nada, Nil

Has anyone noticed the link between those who believe the “End is Near” also believe that “The Beginning was Near, too” by virtue of the nonsensical and unscientific (important distinction) “belief” that the world was created about 6-7k years ago. Again, not that the Bible includes any references to the actual geological age of the Earth (or Universe, to be precise). There are those who desire political activism at the tip of the Christian spear and these delusional folks will stop at nothing to cynically advance their cause and “beliefs”. Not that there is anything wrong with “faith”; it’s just dangerous when people confuse “faith” and “scienctific observation.” God help us all (pun intended).
