Not very correct cartographically, but mildly funny.

  2. Or Mexico, America’s Beard. Funnily enough this one is cartographically correct.

  5. Thanks for keeping us warm and cozy, Canada. I really mean it.

Though it looks like Maine’s shivering in the cold. Totally dropped the ball there, New Brunswick.

  6. USA is *not* America: it is *in* America. USA citizens are Americans, just as lots of other people are.

This business of calling the USA “America” has to stop.

    Now.

Otherwise, we’ll start calling Germany “Europe”, and you know what that’s gonna come to.

  7. Mildy funny, yes. But quite cute, also.

  8. I always thought “America’s hat” was the Northwest Angle (the most interesting cartographical anomaly on the map imho, visited once out of extreme curiosity), I even heard it mentioned as such somewhere (either as “America’s” or “Minnesota’s” hat)

  9. ‘Don’t forget: “America, Canada’s pants.” ‘

Does that mean Texas is the ’seat’ of America’s pants?

  10. Nicola: you have as much a chance of that as convincing Canadians that they’re really American.

In other words: not likely to happen.

Incidentally, what do you propose we call people from the United States? United Staters? That’ll never play in Peoria.

  11. What is Canadian culture? How is “Canadian culture” any different than “American culture?”

O.k., I understand Canada has national health care, the metric system, and a “Parliament” instead of a Congress, but those differences are few. O.k, Canada has French speakers, but America has Spanish speakers.

Put a Canadian in a room with an American, and would a citizen of any other country on the planet be able to tell the difference?

  12. >> Put a Canadian in a room with an American, and would a citizen of any other country on the planet be able to tell the difference?

I am a native Californian. I often travel in Mexico and Central America, and I observe travelers from many lands. I can quickly distinguish USAnians and Russians from the rest of humanity, including Canadians. USAnians and Russians are generally fat slobs, with the Russians smelling worse. Yes, this is a generalization, but it’s true.

  15. @RioRico (post # 12)

During your trips to Mexico and to Central America, how were you able to identify a Canadian to determine that he is not a USAnian (American)?

Isn’t it interesting that California is so radically different than the rest of the country? Where have all the religious conservatives gone? Did they leave for Iowa?
